Les is a Fellow of The International Guild Of Artists, a member of The British Watercolour Society and a Professional Associate and Gold Member of the Society for All Artists.
Les is also a keen amateur photographer and is seldom seen out on his manouvers without his trusty camera - for the fleeting moments that he doesn't have time to sketch but knows would make a dramatic painting.
LES WILSON: Les retired early from his career in the Transport Industry having worked his way up from Driver to Manager, finally in charge of 36 drivers and vehicles in his final year. Accepting an early retirement has given Les the chance to spend much more time with his first love of Art. As a keen Artist and tutor Les successfully ran Art Workshops and gave up his spare time to teaching in several local Art clubs within the Yorkshire area for many years. However, since retirement Les has turned full time Professional Artist and Tutor and is kept extremely busy working on Commissions, giving Art Demonstrations and running Art Workshops, Master Classes and Paint-alongs in and around the Yorkshire area.

MORE RECENTLY:
Les and his wife Margaret have now returned to live in Pontefract where Les has a new studio in Spittal Hardwick Lane on the outskirts of the town. On retiring early from his full time employment, Les was looking forwards to a leisurely retirement, but his painting skills and expert tuition were still very much in demand and his paintings still a much sought after item keeping him extremely busy. A current Fellow of the International Guild of Artists and member of The British Watercolour Society, Les is also a Professional Associate of the Society for All Artists. He was presented with the prestigious Winter Gardens Trophy, bestowed on him by the International Guild of Artists, for the best presentation of paintings at their UK exhibitions throughout the 2002-2003 period. He was also commissioned to paint a northern snow scene by the British Watercolour Society for the front cover of their Winter Exhibition Catalogue in 2004.
A LITTLE HISTORY ABOUT LES:
Les Wilson was born in the small industrial town of Castleford, West Yorkshire, in the early nineteen forties. He was educated at the local Secondary School until he was fifteen.
Coming from an artistic family background Les loved art, and was able to draw and paint from a very early age, often getting into trouble with teacher for 'doodling' in the margines of his work books.
Whilst still at junior school, ( just ten years old,) Les painted a picture of a trawler floundering in rough seas, (dramatic scenes and water were Les's favourites even at that young age). His head teacher was so impressed that he entered the painting in a National Painting Competition being held by the Seven Seas Oil Company. The young Les Wilson managed to take third place and won a large selection of paints and artist materials ..... the rest, of course, is just history!
Les's works are now in galleries and private collections around Britain, throughout Europe, and more recently in the USA, Sweden and even Australia.
