LES WILSON TODAY : Les retired early from his career in the Transport Industry having worked his way up from Driver to Manager, finally in charge of 36 drivers and vehicles in his final year. Accepting an early retirement has given Les the chance to spend much more time with his first love of Art. As a keen semi - professional Artist and tutor Les successfully ran Art Workshops and gave up his spare time to teaching in several local Art clubs within the Pontefract/Castleford area for many years. However, since retirement Les has turned full time Professional Artist and Tutor and is kept extremely busy working on Commissions, also giving Art Demonstrations and running Art Workshops, Master Classes and Paint-alongs in and around the Yorkshire area.

Les and his wife Margaret moved to a bungalow in Sandal, Wakefield, with a view to a leisurely retirement, but his painting skills and expert tuition are still very much in demand and his paintings are still a much sought after item. A current Fellow of the International Guild of Artists and member of The British Watercolour Society, Les is also a Professional Associate of the Society for All Artists. He was presented with the prestigious Winter Gardens Trophy, bestowed on him by the International Guild of Artists, for the best presentation of paintings at their UK exhibitions throughout the 2002-2003 period. He was also commissioned to paint a northern snow scene by the British Watercolour Society for the front cover of their Winter Exhibition Catalogue in 2004.
A LITTLE HISTORY ABOUT LES:
Les Wilson was born in the small industrial town of Castleford, West Yorkshire, in the early nineteen forties. He was educated at the local Secondary School until he was fifteen.
Coming from an artistic family background Les loved art, and was able to draw and paint from a very early age.
When still at junior school, ( just ten years old,) Les painted a picture of a trawler floundering in rough seas, (dramatic scenes and water were Les's favourites even at that young age). His head teacher was so impressed that he entered the painting in a National Painting Competition being held by the Seven Seas Oil Company. The young Les Wilson came in third and won a large selection of paints and artist materials ..... the rest, of course, is just history!
Les's works are now in galleries and private collections around Britain, throughout Europe, and more recently in the USA, Sweden and Australia.
